All distances are from Marple Junction.
MSLR - Manchester, Sheffield & Lincolnshire Railway, who owned the Ashton, Peak Forest and Macclesfield (APM) canals at this time.
Distances are in miles and chains (see below).
Italics - entries in italics were not drawn on the MSLR map but were hand written at a later date.
Researcher: Brian Lamb, The Peak Forest Canal and Railway in Cheshire and Derbyshire.
Imperial measures - for those who have been brought up on the metric system, 'm' is miles, 'ch' is chains. A chain is 22 yards, the length of a cricket pitch, just over 20 metres. There are 80 chains to the mile, 20 to the quarter mile.
Mystery - In Edward Hall's diary (November 28 1834) he refers to Whitelaggs Wharf. We don't know where this was or is. If you can offer any clues please email the webmaster.
